"Why church membership?"
Church membership is our opportunity to grasp hold of each other in responsibility and love. By identifying ourselves with a particular church,we let the pastors and other members of this local church know that we intend to be committed in attendance,giving,prayer and service. We allow fellow believers to have greater expectations of us in these areas,and we make it known that we are the responsibility of this local church. We assure the church of our commitment to Christ in serving with them,and we call for their commitment to serve and encourage us as well.
"What does it mean to be a church member?"
Our basis as a congregational church family must always be found in being more than in doing. If you join our church,you are not being included merely for the sake of a function you could perform (whether for your sake or the church’s) but you are being adopted into a family. And the relationships to which you are committing yourself will bring glory to God.
"How do I become a member?"
To qualify for membership in this church,a person must:
- Be a believer in Jesus Christ who gives evidence of regeneration.,who has been baptized in obedience to Christ,following his or her regeneration, and who wholeheartedly believes in the Christian faith as revealed in the Bible.
- Sustain the doctrines of our church and not hold any settled convictions contrary to them,in accord with our Statement of Faith.
- Complete all sessions of our Beaver Baptist Church Distinctives class.
- Enter into covenant with other members of Beaver Baptist Church. (See Church Covenant).
- Be subject to the government and discipline of the church.
- Commit to faithful participation in the ministries of the church. We expect all members to:(1) attend the Sunday morning worship service;and (2) be involved in a ministry that utilizes the believer’s spiritual gifts. Exceptions are granted to members who are home-bound.
- Be interviewed by two elders of the church who recommend the candidate to the church.
- Be accepted into membership in the church by a vote by the entire church upon profession of faith.
